TOS: Theosophical Order of Service in Perth, W.A.

The Theosophical Order of Service was formed to give members of the Theosophical Society a platform in which to do service to humanity, as the three ideals of Theosophy are Study, Meditation and Service.

The TOS is an organisation separate from TS, but has a direct bearing on the work of the Society and many members actively participate in the humanitarian work of the TOS. The objects of the TOS may be given as follows:

  1. To minimise the sum of misery in the world;

  2. To forget self in working for others;

  3. To eliminate selfishness, greed, and the law of the market and substitute selflessness, love and charity and the law of mutual aid as the rule of the world;

  4. To live to the highest that is within each of us.

The Seven Departments of TOS Work

  1. Information Service: To act as the eyes and ears of the TOS in Australia and to liaise with and support other like-minded community groups.

  2. Social Services: Child Welfare, Prison Reform, Care of the Aged, Sick, Minority Groups, Homeless and Displaced.

  3. Responsible Citizenship: To support and infuse community and national efforts to better government, better education, and greater integrity in public life, and to highlight the individual's responsibility to the greatest good, including civil rights, ombudsman and ecology, etc.

  4. World Peace: Racial Amity, Social and Economic Co-operation, and support of the Charter of the United Nations - including work for UN agencies.

  5. Animal Welfare and Environment: Legislation for Humane Laws, Conservation, etc.
